Stuart Tree Sports at the National Game Awards

Stuart Tree Sports at the National Game Awards On Tuesday 14th May, I was enlisted to photograph the prestigious National Game Awards held at Chelsea FC's Stamford Bridge. The awards recognise the best in our National Game - widely known as Non-League Football. The gala is run by the excellent publication, the Non-League Paper. Dignitaries from across the footballing spectrum came from far and wide to be a part of this special afternoon. Top awards were swept up by National League Champions Leyton Orient. [...]

15 Beautiful Village Cricket Clubs

15 Beautiful Village Cricket Clubs Quintessential English summer scenes; the sound of leather on willow. Balmy Sunday afternoons on a village green. Gentle wind whispering in the overhanging trees. Quaint pavilions hosting tea and cakes. Ironically, I write this looking out the window on torrential rain – the scourge of our summer sport. Last year, the Cricket season flourished courtesy of a three-month drought. This enabled me to visit a plethora of beautiful village cricket venues without the need to check a weather forecast. When You Win the Playoff Final – But You Don’t

When You Win the Playoff Final - But You Don't Met Police FC bested Poole Town on Monday to lift the Southern League Premier South Playoff Final trophy. Ordinarily, this would result in a promotion. However, this season is a little different. Metropolitan Police Football Club have massively over-achieved this season. Manager Gavin McPherson has done a wonderful job in steering the Blues to the playoffs. A semi-final win over Salisbury was followed up with a home final against Poole Town - a side [...]

I've had two notable cases of this with my photography this season - both during a football match. The first saw Enfield Town goalkeeper Joe Wright emerged from the half time team talk. He was gifted a couple of chips and a swig of Guinness from the opposition fans behind the goal. The photo, first posted on Twitter and Instagram [...]

Why Black and White Photography Works with Sport

Why Black and White Photography Works with Sport I’m a firm believer that photography should be awash with colour. Our world is stunning, enriched with amazing hues. I’m writing this looking out of my window at the blue skies and beautiful trees. Sports photography is about colour too; colours are intrinsic to a team. Sponsors want their logos shown in all their glory. Great sports photos are bursting with colour. But you cannot ignore the power of black and white photography. Used well, it’s [...]

Photographing Youth Football – Frequently Asked Questions

Photographing Youth Football – Frequently Asked Questions Taking pictures of kids. Understandably, it’s a sensitive subject. We all want the best photos of our kids enjoying themselves but there are welfare and safeguarding issues to take into consideration before doing so. Chatting to someone involved with the FA believes it’s a real shame that many kid’s developmental years are just not being captured due to these concerns. It’s sad to think that many of these boys and girls will grow up with only fond [...]
